Development of the water plane |

The development and animation programme of the water plane of the northern lake of Tunis The Northern lake of Tunis which was the subject of a most ambitious restoration and development project of modern Tunisia is today a very attractive and exceptional framework to carry out projects of scale not only on the level of the banks but also on the water plane itself. 
For this purpose, and in view of the requirements of an integrated development on one hand and for environmental protection of the lake ecosystem on the other hand, and for the purposes of avoiding the incompatibilities and the inconsistencies on the level of the possible lake activities, a concession agreement was signed between the Tunisian State and SPLT (according to Decree n° 2002-3332 of December 23rd, 2002). Within this framework, SPLT drew up a directing diagram fixing the possibilities of Exploitation and development of the water plane of the Northern lake with a space development plan and recommendations in connection with the measures to be taken in each case of activities. The aforementioned directing diagram deals with the development of two activities sectors in the lake:
- The development of the fishing activity: this activity is practised in the lake through subcontracting; the main fish species exploited today in the lake are the Eels, the Mullets, Spars, the Sea-bream and the Wolf.
- The development of the cultural activities, entertainment, leisure and sport on the Lake: a Business plan is under finalization to define the possible projects and to enable the possible promoters and/or developers to have a specific orientation sheet for each project or a whole of projects in particular on the level of what follows:
- a tolerable number;
- possible site;
- space dimensions and scale of the possible projects;
- technical and environmental aspects to be taken into account;
- required works to set up;
- etc…
Among the possible types of projects, one can quote on a purely completely indicative basis:
- Lakeside entertainment villages
- Walking activities on water
- Floating scenes for shows
- Centre of activities, sport and leisure
- Nautical club
- Floating restaurants
- Lagoon swimming pool
- Structures developing the water plane /fountain
It is advisable to specify that the business plan established today can be brought up to date and more enriched according to circumstances, in particular in view of the developments and modifications of the urban development strategies around the lake or in respect with the examples and experiments observed everywhere in the world. In addition, and in view of the opening of the company on the universities, it is called upon the students of the architecture and engineering schools to take part in the development of ideas relating to the possible projects on the lake water level and this, either within the framework of their research or their end of studies projects or others: the contribution of the academics will permit the opening on other futuristic imaginations and ideas. |
